Swedish sailing superstar Magnus Olsson to skipper a Najad 570
at this year’s Tjörn Runt sailing race.

Widely recognised as one of the world’s most experienced and successful ‘round-the-world’ yachtsman, Swedish star, Magnus Olsson, will skipper a Najad 570 at this year’s Tjörn Runt race, which takes place on Saturday 21st August.
Olsson began his career on the world sailing stage as part of the crew onboard Sverige at both the 1977 and 1980 Americas Cup challenges and, since 1985, has competed in no less than six Whitbread round the world yacht races (re-named the Volvo Ocean Race from 2001), skippering Ericsson 3 to an honourable fourth place in the 2008-09 VOR.
The Tjörn Runt is an annual event attracting all kinds of sailors, both amateur and professional, and has been held on the third Saturday of August every year since 1964.

About 1,000 yachts of all kinds sail the 28 nautical mile course around the island of Tjörn each year.Tjörn is located just south of Orust about 70km north of Gothenburg and is a popular cruising ground for many of the boats that are built in this area, which, of course, includes Najad.
Due to his reputation and popularity, Magnus Olsson’s appearance on a Najad 570 is expected to create a great deal of interest from the local press and media, combined with the fact that a yacht the size and calibre of a Najad 570 has rarely been seen competing before in this race.
In his wisdom, Magnus has obviously decided that the supreme comfort, style and safety of a Najad 570 will make a pleasant change from the extreme ‘round-the-world’ flyers that he is more used to sailing….!
Wish them luck on the Tjörn Runt.
